No. 7 Mount Union Travels to Michigan On Friday & Saturday For Midwest Tournament

Mount Union's women's volleyball team, ranked No. 7 in the nation, takes a trip to the "state up North" to compete in the Midwest Volleyball Tournament hosted by Calvin College and Hope College in Michigan on Friday, October 11 where play kicks off at 12:00 p.m. against No. 13 Wittenberg.

 

Last Match - Raiders Defeat Polar Bears 3-0

Mount Union, who sits at 21-0 on the season and 3-0 in the OAC, defeated Ohio Northern Saturday, October 5, 25-21, 25-17, 25-13 in Ada, Ohio. The Raiders were led by junior Nicole Snyder (Mentor/Lake Catholic) who notched 14 kills, three digs and recorded a hitting percentage of 0.591 as she went on to claim OAC Player of the week honors on October 7.

 

Juniors Sarah Schleich (Westfield Center/Cloverleaf) and Brittany Woodard (Diamond/Southeast) each tallied 21 assists as junior Lauren Mastroine(Orrville/Orrville) recorded 22 digs. Freshman Allison Twining (Perrysburg/Findlay) finished the day with 12 kills and five digs.

 

Ohio Northern was led by Kristin Sessler who had nine kills and 14 digs as Ashley Borchers tallied 13 assists.

Friday, the Raiders take on No. 13 Wittenberg in Grand Rapids, Michigan to start the 2013 Midwest Tournament at 12:00 p.m. before facing No. 1 Calvin at 4:00 p.m. in the Van Noord Arena on the campus of Calvin College.

 

Saturday morning, Mount Union continues play in the Midwest Tournament as they travel to Holland, Michigan to take on Bethany (W.Va.) at 11:00 a.m. and finish the day against No. 2 Hope at 2:30 p.m. in the DeVos Fieldhouse on the campus of Hope College.

No. 7 Mount Union – 21-0

Mount Union enters the weekend riding a long win streak, 21 games, and is led by senior Taylor Webb (Geneva/Geneva) who has recorded 207 kills on the season. Schleich has dished out 430 assists as Mastroine notched 420 digs on the season. Sophomore Kara Berger (Mentor/Mentor) tallied 73 total blocks on the 2013 campaign to lead the Raiders.

 

No. 13 Wittenberg – 12-5

Wittenberg enters the weekend after a 3-1 win at DePauw on October 8th. On the season the Tigers are led by Andrea Behling who has tallied 165 kills thus far. Meghan Vodopich recorded 494 assists as Katie Zito has notched 170 digs this season.

 

No. 1 Calvin – 19-0

Calvin enters the tournament after a 3-0 win at Olivet on October 9th. On the season the Knights are led by Maggie Kamp who has 259 kills, Megan Rietema has 615 assists and Kristen Zietse who tallied 307 digs. Emily Crowe has notched 59 total blocks to lead Calvin. 

 

Bethany (W.Va.) – 18-4

The Bison enter the weekend after a 3-2 win over Westminster on October 9th and is led by Breana Harris who has 219 kills and 67 blocks so far this season. MacKenzie Lauber leads Bethany with 674 assists as Julia Mouch has recorded 306 digs for the Bison.

 

No. 2 Hope – 18-1

Hope enters the weekend after a 3-0 sweep of Olivet on October 5th. This season, the Dutch are led by Jenna Grasmeyer who has 246 kills and 147 digs as Lauren Hazekamp dished for a total of 663 assists. Allie Mitchell leads Hope with 184 digs on the season.
