Volleyball Splits on Day Two of Midwest Tournament Saturday

HOLLAND, Michigan – Mount Union's women's volleyball team, ranked No. 7 in the nation, went 1-1 on Saturday day two of the Midwest Tournament as they defeated Bethany (W.Va.) 3-1 and lost to No. 2 Hope (Mich.) 3-0 at the DeVos Fieldhouse on the campus of Hope College.

With the split on day two, the Purple Raiders moved to 22-3 on the season as Bethany fell to 18-5 and Hope improved to 23-1.

In the 25-15, 24-26, 25-12, 25-18 win over the Bison, junior Nicole Snyder (Mentor/Lake Catholic) recorded 10 kills with 13 digs as senior Taylor Webb (Geneva/Geneva) notched 14 kills. Sophomore Mary Tout (North Royalton/North Royalton) chipped in with 12 kills, as junior Lauren Mastroine (Orrville/Orrville) had 33 digs.

Junior Sarah Schleich (Westfield Center/Cloverleaf) dished out 31 assists as junior Brittany Woodard (Diamond/Southeast) tallied out 13. Sophomore Kara Berger (Mentor/Mentor) recorded 5 blocks over Bethany. 

Bethany was led by Dylana McKenzie who recorded 15 kills and Julia Mouch tallied 28 digs. MacKenzie Lauber had 42 assists as Kelly Becquet chipped in 10 digs.

In the 25-16, 25-17, 25-16 loss to No. 2 Hope, Tout led the Raiders with 10 kills as Mastroine chipped in with 25 digs and Schleich dished out 16 assists.

The Flying Dutch were led by Lauren Hazekamp who tallied 38 assists and 14 digs. Jenna Grasmeyer recorded 13 kills, Mari Schoolmaster had 10 kills and Allie Mitchell notched 16 digs.

Mount Union returns to action Tuesday, October 15th when they host John Carroll at 7:00 p.m. in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex as the "Dig for Pink" game.
