Volleyball ranked No. 10 in AVCA Preseason Poll

LEXINGTON, Ky.—The Mount Union volleyball team begins the 2014 season ranked No. 10 in the nation by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

The Purple Raiders won the Ohio Athletic Conference regular season and swept the conference tournament without dropping a set in their three matches. Mount Union made its third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearence and defeated Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) in the opening round.

The team won 31 matches which is a school record for most wins in a season. The season came to an end with a five-set lose to the eventual National Champions and Top 25 Preseason Poll No. 1 team Calvin (Mich.)

Five starters return this year, led by All-American Nicole Snyder (Mentor/Lake Catholic) and OAC Libero of the Year Lauren Mastroine (Orrville/Orrville). 

Mount Union is the highest ranked OAC team with Otterbein cracking the top 25 at No. 23. Ohio Northern also received top 25 votes.

The Raiders will be tested by some of the best teams in the nation this year. They are scheduled to play four teams ranked in the top 25 poll, including No. 4 Hope and No. 14 Juniata.
