Volleyball: # 14 Mount Union Wins Season Opener in Four Sets

ALLIANCE, Ohio- The No. 14 ranked Mount Union volleyball team opened the 2015 season with a 3-1 victory over Geneva College Tuesday night at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

Mount Union (1-0,) won the first set 25-18, but lost the second set with a close score of 23-25. The Purple Raiders came back and won the last two sets 25-17 and 25-16.

The Raiders were led by sophomores Brooke Knollman (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) and Morgan Chapman (Seven Fields, Pa./Seneca Valley). Knollman had 10 kills while Chapman added eight kills.

Sophomore Riley Schenk (Lorain/Amherst Steele) dished out 17 assists for the victors.

The Golden Tornadoes (0-1,) were led by Erica Hughes with 21 kills and five digs.

Mount Union will play two matches on Friday against Grove City (Pa.) at 4:00 p.m. and the second against Trine (Ind.) at 8:00 p.m. in the first day of the Purple Raider Classic.
