Volleyball: No. 14 Mount Union Suffers First Loss

ALLIANCE, Ohio – No.14 ranked Mount Union split a pair of volleyball matches on the second day of the Purple Raiders Classic.

The Purple Raiders suffered their first loss against Bethany College (W.Va.), 3-0 before winning their last match against Westminster (Pa.)

It was the first loss of the year for Mount Union that now stands 4-1 overall. Bethany College is 3-1 after the win while Westminster is 0-5 after the weekend.

In the match against Bethany, sophomore Morgan Chapman (Seven Fields, Pa./Seneca Valley) led the team in kills with seven, junior Kelly Johnson (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) had 14 assists while freshman Allison Baird (North Royalton/North Royalton) had 14 digs for the Raiders.

Leading the way for Mount Union against Westminster (Pa.) was sophomore Brooke Knollman (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) with 12 kills, sophomore Riley Schenk (Lorain/Amherst Steele) had 25 assists while Baird had 13 digs.

Mount Union plays again next weekend at the Juniata Eagle Classic against Clarkson (N.Y.), Juniata (Pa.), Mary Washington (Va.), and Stevens.
