Volleyball: No. 18 Mount Union Wins Match Against No.16 Clarkson; Defeated by No. 5 Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The No. 18 Mount Union volleyball team starts their weekend off with a win against No. 16 Clarkson but also adds another loss to their season against No. 5 Juniata at the ASICS Invitational.

The Purple Raiders (5-2) had a long first match, going to five sets with Clarkson with a 23-25, 25-14, 22-25, 25-21, 15-8 victory.

Mount Union was led by Morgan Chapman (Seven Fields, Pa./Seneca Falls) who had a double, double with 14 kills and 16 digs. Emma Mathieson (Tallmadge/Tallmadge) also added 10 kills for the Raiders. Riley Schenk (Lorain/Amherst Steele) led the Raiders in assists with 26. Defensively, Allison Baird (North Royalton/North Royalton) led in digs with 29 while Abby Riffee (Mineral Ridge/Mineral Ridge) added 21.  

Clarkson was led by Victoria Kirkemo with 16 kills and 15 digs.

In the second game, Mount Union was defeated by Juniata 25-14, 25-15, 26-24 in a tough battle for the Raiders.

Mount Union was led by Brooke Knollman (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) who had 6 kills while Kyleigh Jackson (Galloway/Westland) was right behind her with 5. Schenk dished out 15 assists, while Baird added 14 digs.

Juniata was led by Nakita Gerhart and Megan Moroney with 13 and 11 kills respectively.

The Raiders play two more matches tomorrow at the ASICS Invitational against Mary Washington (Va.) at 12:00pm and Stevens (N.J.) at 4:00pm
