Volleyball: No.18 Defeated by Mary Washington; Wins Straight Match to Stevens

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The No. 18 Mount Union volleyball team ends the weekend going 1-1 today losing to Mary Washington (Pa.) and defeating Stevens (N.J.) at the ASICS Invitational.

The Purple Raiders had a tough first game losing to Mary Washington 24-26, 25-12, 19-25 20-25.

Leading the Raiders in kills was Caitlyn Synek (Independence/Independence) with 9 and Brooke Knollman (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) right behind her with 8 kills respectively. Allison Baird (North Royalton/North Royalton) led the Raiders in digs with 24 while Riley Schenk (Lorain/Amherst Steele) and Kelly Johnson (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) dished out 19 and 17 assists.

In the second match, Mount Union defeated Stevens in three sets 25-13, 27-25,25-23. Knollman led the team with 7 kills while Emma Mathieson (Tallmadge/Tallmadge) and Sabrina Ochoa (North Royalton/Padua Franciscan) were right behind her helping the Raiders out with having 6 each. Johnson led in assists with 15 while Schenk dished out 13.

Synek was named to the All-Tournament team for the ASICS Invitational.

The Purple Raiders are in Cleveland on Wedneday against Case Western Reserve at 7:00PM.
