Volleyball: Mount Union Wins Five Set Match Against Hiram

ALLIANCE, Ohio- The No. 25 Mount Union volleyball team was tested but ultimately prevailed against Hiram in a 25-23, 18-25, 25-16, 19-25, 16-14 five set win victory Tuesday night in a non-conference action.

The Purple Raiders (8-5) were led by sophomore outside hitter Morgan Chapman (Seven Fields, Pa. /Seneca Valley) dishing out a double, double with 14 kills and 17 digs. Junior Emma Mathieson (Tallmadge/Tallmadge) was right behind Chapman with 10 kills.

Sophomore Riley Schenk (Lorain/Amherst Steele) and junior Kelly Johnson (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) each handed out 23 and 20 assists on the night.

Hiram was led by Lindsay Brewer pulling out a double, double with 21 kills and 22 digs. Setter Claire Maier led the team in assists with 53.

The Raiders and Terriers fought back and forth with each set, but Mount took over the match late in the fifth set with back to back kills from Mathieson and Knollman to make it 14-13.

A kill by Hiram tied up the game 14-14. With a bad set by Hiram, Mount got the ball back to make it 15-14. The Raiders ended on a kill by Chapman winning the game 16-14.

The Raiders travel to Pittsburgh, Pa. to take on Brooklyn (N.Y.), Pomona-Pitzer (Calif.), Stevenson, and #20 Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) this weekend in the CMU DoubleTree Invitational.
