
ALLIANCE, Ohio- Six Mount Union volleyball players have earned Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference Honors for the 2015 season.
Senior Abby Riffee (Mineral Ridge/Mineral Ridge), juniors Kelly Johnson (McMurray,Pa./Peters Township) Caitlyn Synek (Independence/Independence), and sophomores Mallory Sliman (Amherst/Amherst Steele), Celia Barrett (University Heights/Hathaway Brown), and Elise Nickoli (Monroeville/Norwalk St. Paul) were named Academic All-OAC.
Riffee, a Psychology major with a 4.0 grade point average, played in 27 matches and 95 sets this season. Her best performance this season was a career high of 21 digs against Clarkson (Sept. 11). Riffee has earned Academic All-OAC three years in a row and also made Academic All-District Second Team last year.
Johnson, a Human Resource Management/Business Management double major with a 3.96 GPA, played in 28 matches and 91 sets this season. Her best performance was a career-high of 21 assists against Wilmington (Oct.24).
Synek, an Exercise Science major with a 3.65 GPA, played in 28 matches and 92 sets this season. She finished the season with a .202 hitting percentage. Her career-high was 11 kills against Wilmington (Oct.24). She also had a season high of four blocks against Wilmington. She received Academic All-OAC Honors last season.
Sliman, a Public Relations major with a 3.71 GPA, played in 28 matches and 97 sets this season. She finished second on the team in blocks with 74. She had a season-high of 11 kills twice, last against Ohio Northern on October, 11. She had a career-high of six blocks against Thomas More (Ky.) (Oct. 31).
Barrett, an Exercise Science major with a 3.62 GPA, played in 19 matches and 44 sets. She averaged 1.55 digs per game and had a career-high of seven digs against Wilmington (Oct. 24).
Nickoli, a Public Relations major with a 3.5 GPA, played in 24 matches and 68 sets this season. She averaged 1.19 digs per game and had a season high of 13 digs against Capital (Oct.3).
To be named Academic All-OAC, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average, be in residence at the school for at least a year and have varsity status.
