Mount Union's volleyball team will play three matches on a seven day tour through Nicaragua May 18-29. The Purple Raiders departed on May 17 for a seven day tour that will take them through Nicaragua.
On Wednesday we all met at the airport in Cleveland to start our trip! We flew from Cleveland to Atlanta and then Atlanta to Managua. When we arrived in Managua we met our tour guide, saw our rooms for the first night (some were less buggy than others), and ate our first meal, chicken burritos! After dinner we were all tired from traveling so we went in our rooms and watched some TV (everything was in Spanish) and went to bed.
Happy birthday Brooke! It was an early morning for the Raiders today. We ate breakfast at the hotel and then loaded onto a bus to head to San Juan del Sur (a 2 hour drive, mas o menos). After 45 minutes we stopped to see a beautiful view of a crater lake, volcano, and Lake Nicaragua. It was absolutely breathtaking as were the views during our drive! After the bus ride (by the way, there are some crazy drivers here) we arrived at our second hotel, went to our rooms, and then quickly whisked off to the beach! It was awesome finally getting to be in the sun and having our toes in the sand. For lunch we headed off to a women's cooperative for some homemade food. We loaded into two pickup trucks and half of us got to ride in the bed of the truck on the way there (sorry Mom) and the other half got to on the way home! The lunch was muy delicioso and the women were sweet! After that the school kids arrived and we spent the afternoon doing different activities with the kids, it was a blast. Next, we got to spend some time in the pool and get ready for our special dinner! Tonight we got to have an awesome dinner on the beach (fajitas, fried cheese, and plantains) where there was a special folklore dance show for the guests. We got to learn the dances and it was tons of fun! The Raiders owned the dance floor, as usual. We can't wait to see what tomorrow has in store for us!!
