Volleyball: Mount Union Breaks Baldwin Wallace's 23 Game Win Streak

BEREA, Ohio - Mount Union women's volleyball team defeated Baldwin Wallace on Tuesday night in Berea, Ohio at Ursprung Gymnasium, giving Baldwin Wallace their first loss of the season.

The Purple Raiders (17-3) went 25-16, 25-20, 25-16 in straight sets against the Yellow Jackets (23-1). On offense, Mount Union was led by senior Brooke Knollman's (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) 11 kills, coming from senior setter Riley Schenk's (Lorain/Amherst Steele) 28 assists. Protecting for the purple and white was junior libero Allison Baird (North Royalton/North Royalton) with 11 digs and sophomore Marlee Peck (Homeworth/Marlington) who provided four blocks.

The Raiders made the first set a quick one as they toppped the Jackets. Mount Union grabbed hold of an early lead with a series of runs and surely did not let go. Although Baldwin Wallace strung together a series of points near the end to cut a one 12-point lead to just nine, Mount Union won 25-16.

Set two, Mount Union and Baldwin Wallace kept it tight early on as they tied on four separate occasions. After being tied at seven, the Raiders carried on with a 6-0 run, giving them a 13-point edge over the Jackets. Mount Union finished the set off with a score of 25-20. Mount Union recorded a hitting percentage of .366

Third set and final set, Mount Union got off to a slow start, however, it wasn't long until the Raiders established a dominant lead over the Jackets. Five points turned into a quick nine as Mount Union took the set once again with a score of 25-16.

Mount Union will next host the Student Princes of Heidelberg on Saturday, October 7 at 1:00 pm.
