ALLIANCE, Ohio - The Mount Union women's volleyball team defeated Heidelberg (10-10, 1-2) in straight sets in an Ohio Athletic Conference match Saturday afternoon at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
The Purple Raiders (18-3, 2-1) went 25-20, 25-23 and 25-20 to pull a clean sweep over the Student Princes.
On offense, the Raiders were led by freshman Madelin DiBease's (Perry/Perry) 13 kills, followed closely by senior Brooke Knollman's (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) 10. Senior setter Riley Schenk (Lorain/Amherst Steele) dropped 27 assists to aid in the Raiders victory.
Defensively, Mount Union recorded 12 total blocks, five of which coming from junior Kyleigh Jackson (Galloway/Westland). DiBease was also a force on defense, as she tabbed 14 digs, followed by junior libero Allison Baird (North Royalton/North Royalton) who had 11 of her own.
Throughout the duration of the match, the Raiders would hold a steady lead over the Princes, but Heidelberg continuously rallied; neither team led in any set by more than five points. Mount Union's third set sealed the deal for the Raiders as the team recorded a hitting percentage of .323, one of the season's highest.
Next up, the Raiders will host the Marietta Tuesday, October 10th at 7 p.m. in the MAAC.
