ALLIANCE, Ohio - The Mount Union women's volleyball team swept Marietta (9-13, 1-3 OAC) in straight sets in an Ohio Athletic Conference match Tuesday night at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
The Purple Raiders (19-3, 3-1) went 25-17, 25-16 and 25-18 against the Pioneers. Overall, the Raiders recorded a hitting percentage of .326. Mount Union was led on offense by freshman Madelin DiBease (Perry/Perry) who recorded 10 kills, coming from senior Riley Schenk's (Lorain/Amherst Steele) 31 assists.
Protecting home court for the Raiders was junior Allison Baird (North Royalton/North Royalton) with 11 digs, accompanied by DiBease who had 14 of her own. At the net, Mount Union recorded 12 total team blocks, led by senior Brooke Knollman (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) and junior Kyleigh Jackson (Galloway/Westland) who tabbed four and three blocks, respectively.
Mount Union contained a lead through two sets, in the final set however, Marietta got a strong start of 5-0 forcing the Raiders to take their first timeout of the match. Not long after, Mount Union rallied back to tie the set at six points, going on to win and record their best hitting percentage in a match of .462.
Next up, the Raiders will travel to Capital on Saturday, October 14th to face the Crusaders at 1:00 pm.
