ALLIANCE, Ohio -- The Mount Union women's volleyball team defeated Baldwin Wallace in four sets during the OAC Quarterfinals on Tuesday evening from the McPhearson Academic and Athletic Complex.
The Purple Raiders (25-4), went 21-25, 25-19, 25-13 and 25-18 against the Yellow Jackets (26-6). On offense, the Raiders were led by senior Brooke Knollman's (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) 15 kills, tying for a season-high. Senior setter Riley Schenk (Lorain/Amherst Steele) provided 37 assists in the the Raiders' four-set victory. Protecting Mount Union territory was junior libero Allison Baird (North Royalton/North Royalton) with 19 digs and junior Kyleigh Jackson who tied for a season-high six block.
Baldwin Wallace struck first in the match by gaining a comfortable 7-1 lead over Mount Union. The Raiders would get within one by being down 19-20, but it would not last for long as the Yellow Jackets stormed back to take the first set at 21-25.
Second set, the Raiders carried a steady single digit lead over the jackets until leading by as much as ten points. With a slow finish, the Raiders were able to seal the win at 25-19
For the third set, the Raiders and Jackets would stay tied through six. A 12-point run led by senior Celia Barrett's (University Heights/Hathaway Brown) serving would allow the Raiders keep the Jackets at 13 points; Mount Union wins 25-13.
Another tight start to the final set, the Raiders kept a strong lead. As Baldwin Wallace would hold Mount Union to a two-point lead, it wasn't long before the Raiders would eventually take off as they would hit for .361 percent in the set, led by junior Sabrina Ochoa (North Royalton/Padua Franciscan) who record a season-high of nine kills on the night. Mount Union won the final set 25-18.
Advancing to the OAC Semifinals, Mount Union will travel to Ada, Ohio and face #18 Ohio Northern on Thursday, Novmber 2nd at 7:00 p.m.
