Women's Volleyball: Eight is Great; Raiders Still Undefeated

MEADVILLE, Pa. - Mount Union's women's volleyball team improves to 8-0 on the season after another pair of three-set wins against St. Vincent (Pa.) and Allegheny (Pa.) on the final day of competiton at the Allegheny Gator Invitational.

To start the day, five Purple Raiders tallied five kills or more against St. Vincent (Pa.) as the team's total reached 37 off 35 assists. Leading the team in assists once again with 33 was junior setter Carly Stepic (Cleveland/Holy Name).

Continuing the team effort, Mount Union set a team season-high of 10 service aces as Stepic and Madelin DiBease (Perry/Perry) reached season-high marks of their own with three aces a piece. 

On defense, senior libero Allison Baird (North Royalton/North Royalton) dug up 15 balls and was accompanied by sophomore Annie Leslein (Akron/Hoban) who had eight.

Against Allegheny (Pa.), hitters Breanna Arnett (Peninsula/Woodridge), Kyleigh Jackson (Galloway/Westland), Marlee Peck (Homeworth/Marlington) and DiBease all tabbed six kills. Freshman right side Maria Ellesin (Alliance/Marlington) followed close behind with five of her own. 

Strong at the net to lead the Raiders, Peck had a total of five blocks for a season-high and ties her career-best from a year ago.

Mount Union returns home to host Case Western Reserve for a non-conference match Wednesday, September 12 at 7:30 p.m.
