ALLIANCE, Ohio - Mount Union's women's volleyball team defeated John Carroll 3-1 Tuesday night in an Ohio Athletic Conference match Tuesday night at Timken Gymnasium.
The Purple Raiders won for the eighth time over their last nine matches and improve to 17-4 overall and 2-0 in the OAC while John Carroll falls to 15-6 overall and 0-2 in the OAC.
Mount Union had two hitters that logged double digit kills to lead the offense as junior Breanna Arnett (Peninsula / Woodridge) had 14 kills, while fellow junior Madelin DiBease (Perry) added 10 kills. Most of those kills came off of freshmen setters Katie May (Independence) and Mollie Thomas (Massillon) who both recorded 21 assists.
Defending Mount Union territory was freshman libero, Alyssa Kasaris (North Royalton), who had 18 digs. Thomas and DiBease also helped defend by adding double digit digs of their own with 15 and 10 respectively.
The Blue Streaks were led by Cassi Calamunci's 12 kills.
The Raiders came out strong winning the first set 25-20. John Carroll bounced back in set two, winning 25-18. Mount Union continued on to win the last two sets, and the match, 26-24 and 25-20.
Mount Union stays home hosting a pair of matches against Wilmington and Wittenberg Saturday, Oct. 12 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. in Alliance.
