BEREA, Ohio - Mount Union's women's volleyball team fell at Baldwin Wallace 3-2 in an Ohio Athletic Conference match Tuesday evening in Berea, Ohio.
Mount Union falls to 20-8 overall and 5-3 in the OAC with the loss while Baldwin Wallace is now 21-5 overall and 4-4 in the OAC.
Leading the offense for the Purple Raiders was junior Madelin DiBease (Perry) with a season-high 22 kills, a hitting percentage of .475 , and 15 digs, while fellow junior Breanna Arnett (Penninsula) recorded 11 kills.
Freshman setter Katie May (Independence) led the team in assists with 24, while freshman Alyssa Kasaris (North Royalton) led the defense with 21 digs. Senior Marlee Peck (Homeworth / Marlington) defended the net with a team-high six blocks.
In set one, the Yellow Jackets gained an early 8-4 lead. Mount Union fought back tying the score at 13-13, but Baldwin Wallace regained control of the set, winning 25-20.
Mount Union and Baldwin Wallace went point for point starting the second set tying the score at 10-10. The Raiders scored the next four points giving them a 14-10 lead. The Yellow Jackets clawed their way back taking the lead 15-14. This was the last time Baldwin Wallace would lead this set. The Raiders rallied, regaining control with multiple kills from DiBease and sophomores Chase Filicko (Olmsted Falls / Gilmour Academy) and Maria Ellesin (Alliance / Marlington) winning the set 25-17.
The Raiders started set three with a 10-5 run. Baldwin Wallace went on their own run tying the score at 11-11. With six ties and six lead changes, the Yellow Jackets won 25-23.
Baldwin Wallace started set four with a 9-3 lead. Mount Union battled back, tying the score once again at 11-11. The two teams went back and forth tying the score at 16-16. The Raiders ended the set on a 9-6 run, winning 25-22.
In set five, the Raiders and the Yellow Jackets went point for point. After tying the score at 8-8, Baldwin Wallace went on a 7-3 run. The Yellow Jackets won this set and the match 15-11.
Mount Union closes out the regular season against Ohio Northern, Friday, Nov. 1 in Ada.
