NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Mount Union's men's and women's cross country teams each earned an All-Academic Team award and five individuals garnered All-Academic honors from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The Purple Raider women's team earned a team cummulative grade point average of 3.52 while the men's team had a 3.28 grade point average.
For a team to be considered for this distinction, it must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Meet. The team must also have a minimum team GPA of 3.10 on a 4.0 scale.
Mount Union's men finished fourth and the women were eighth at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional. The men's team qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships as well.
Five runners -- freshman Preston Myers (Alliance/Marlington), senior Matt O'Neil (Woodbridge, Va./Pope John Paul) and junior Nick Thomas (Louisville/Louisville on the men's side and freshman Katie Durisin (Painesville/Riverside) and junior Hilary Reigle (Madison/Madison) -- from the women's team received All-Academic individual recognition.
In order to be named USTFCCA All-Academic, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) and finish in the top-25 percent at their respective regional.
