NEW ORLEANS -- Mount Union's women's cross country is ranked sixth in the latest Great Lakes Region Poll done by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Allegheny (Pa.) tops the poll, followed by Calvin (Mich.) and Hope (Mich.), with fellow Ohio Athletic Conference member Otterbein in fourth while Oberlin stands fifth.
Two weeks ago, Mount Union opened the season by winning the Franklin (Ind.) Grizzly Invite. The Purple Raiders had three of the top 10 finishers on the same course that will host the NCAA Regional later this year.
Senior Hilary Reigle (Madison) placed third overall with a time of 23:32.90 on the 6k course which was less than a second behind race winner Rachel House of Heidelberg (22:39.10). Junior Katie Durisin (Painesville / Riverside) and Hilary's twin sister Hannah Reigle(Madison) were close behind in fourth (23:41.40) and eighth (24:37.00) to pace the Raiders.
The Raiders next race on Friday at 6 p.m. at the Penn State-Behrend Invitational in Erie, Pa.
