The women's side got their first win in the third event when
Kayla Alden (Boardman/Boardman) won the 1000 Freestyle with a time
of 11:52.37. After that they never looked back. The women swept
first, second and third in the 200 Freestyle led by Alyson
Kolesar's (Stow/Stow) time of 2.04.11. They also swept the 100
Backstroke with Kolesar leading the way again (1.02.91).
Other winners for the women were Katy Alkire (Akron/Firestone)
in the 200 IM (2.20.84), Sarah Noble (Copley/Copley) in the 100
Freestyle(56.66), Aldan in the 500 Freestyle(5.43.35), and the 400
Freestyle Relay team of Taylor Harrison (New Philadelphia/New
Philadelphia), Jocecelyn Gaydos (Murraysville,PA/Franklin
Regional), Elizabeth Juran (Independence/Independence), and Alkire
(3.56.64).
Mary Vallinger (Poland/Poland Seminary) also won both diving
events with scores 116.95 and 261.95.
The men's team held off Ohio Wesleyan for its first dual meet
win of the season.
Winners on the men's side were Rob Brocious
(Mentor/Mentor) in the 1000 Freestyle (10.24.10), Matt Carlozzi
(Canfield/Canfield) in the 200 Freestyle (1.49.06) and 500
Freestyle (4.57.88), Marcus
Suffolk (Canfield/Canfield) in the 50 Freestyle(22.54), Ben Haren
(Lisbon/David Anderson) in the 100 Backstroke (56.23), and the 400
Freestyle Relay team of Carlozzi, Mike Greisl (South Euclid/NDCL),
Andy
Neimes (Brecksville/Brecksville-Broadview Heights), and Julian
Oprandi (Heath/Heath) (3.21.11).
The men were ahead 109-101 going into the final event and took
first and second to seal the win.
“Our guys having been swimming so well this season, so it
feels really good to see them get a win for all their effort,"
commented Mount Union head coach Eric Mojock. " I'm very proud of
the way our team swam tonight.”
The Raiders will look to even their OAC record next Friday when
Mount Union hosts Baldwin-Wallace in the Hammond Natatorium.
