ALLIANCE, Ohio-- Four Purple Raiders won multiple events, leading the Men's Swimming and Diving team to a 163-90 victory over the St. Vincent Bearcats.
Mount Union's multi-event winners include Mike Greisl (South Euclid/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin), Rob Brocious (Mentor/Mentor), Brian Ruhe (Versailles/Versailles), and Hayden Birnbrich (Pataskala/Columbus St. Charles Prep). Greisl won the 100 and 200 yard freestyle events, with times of :49.39 and 1:47.94, respectively. Brocious touched first in the 100 backstroke (:55.21) and the 500 free (4:57.34). Ruhe set the pace in the 100 (1:02.03) and 200 breaststroke (2:23.38), while Birnbrich won the 50 free (:22.20) and the 200 back (2:05.66).
Other Purple Raiders scoring individual wins were Nick Bester (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) in the 1,000 free (11:04.22), Ben Davies (Willoughby/Willoughby South) in the 200 butterfly (2:04.54), and Mike Zappa (Shelby/Shelby) in the 100 butterfly (:53.82).
The 200 medley relay team consisting of Brocious, Ruhe, Zappa, and Birnbrich also was able to score a win, with a time of 1:40.67.
The Purple Raiders (3-2, 1-1) return to action after the new year, when they travel to Melbourne, Fla. January 4.
