TIFFIN, Ohio -- The No. 8 ranked Mount Union wrestling team took one step closer to an Ohio Athletic Conference title by knocking off five-time defending conference champ Heidelberg, 30-12 Thursday night in Tiffin.
The Purple Raiders won seven of the 10 weight classes to remain perfect in dual matches on the season (12-0, 4-0 OAC).
Sophomore Riki Reynolds (Marion/Pleasant) started things off right for Mount Union as the nation's No. 4 ranked at 125 got a pin just 1:03 into his match.
Junior Colin Dennis (North Ridgeville/Lutheran West) continued the Raiders strong start as he scored a pin at 133.
Juniors in No. 9 ranked Josh Malave (Rocky River/Lutheran West) at 141 and Kevin Shadrach (Parma/Parma) at 149 each scored wins to give Mount Union an 18-0 lead.
Heidelberg (9-9-2, 2-2 OAC) rallied as they scored two-straight wins at 157 and 165 with a pin at 174 to bring the score to 18-12.
Junior Andy Jenkins (Stow/Woodridge) then righted the ship for the Raiders with a 10-5 win at 174 before No. 4 ranked All-American senior Bill Schindel (Tallmadge/Akron Hoban) got a pin at 197 and Derick Hesson (Dexter City/Caldwell) got a win at 285 to put the match away.
