ERIE, Pa.—Junior Rob Brocious (Mentor/Mentor) recorded a pool record time in the 400 IM, but it was not quite enough as Mount Union's men's swimming and diving team lost a close meet to Penn State-Behrend, 129-101.
Brocious gave the men their first event win of the day when he swam the 400-yard IM in a time of 4:25.15, setting a pool record. He also took first place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:53.75 and the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:22.85.
Three other Raiders earned first place finishes in individual events. Sophomore Mike Zappa (Shelby/Shelby) took the 100-yard butterfly (:54.45), junior Mike Greisl (South Euclid/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) the 100-yard freestyle (:49.45), and freshman Brian Ruhe (Versailles/Versailles) the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.20).
Zappa and Greisl were joined by freshman Hayden Birnbrich (Pataskala/Columbus St. Charles) and senior Dominique Melvin (Woodmere/Orange) to finish first in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:30.04).
Mount Union finishes the regular season when it hosts Westminster (Pa.) in a dual meet next Saturday at 1 pm.
