HIRAM, Ohio --Mount Union's men's swimming and diving team defeated Hiram 166-82, on Saturday afternoon Oct. 27th.
With the win, Mount Union improves its record to 2-1, while Hiram falls to 0-2 on the season.
The Purple Raiders looked dominant in their second victory of the season winning eleven events on the afternoon.
Sophomore Brian Ruhe (Versailles/Versailles) took home two first place finishes in the meet with victories in the 100 meter breaststoke (1:14.95), and swam the second leg in the 400 meter relay (4:18.30) which also included Hayden Birnbrich (Pataskala/Columbus St. Charles Prep), Mike Zappa (Shelby/Shelby), and Mike Greisl (South Euclid/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin).
Freshman Michael Branch (Las Vegas, Nev./Palo Verde) finished in first place in the 800 meter freestyle (9:28.95) and the 200 meter backstroke (2:24.74).
Other swimmers that were victorious in events on the afternoon were: Senior Rob Brocious in the 200 meter freestyle (2:01.79). Zach Melvin (Woodmere/Orange) in the 100 meter backstroke (1:07.46), Brain Ruhe in the 100 meter breaststroke (1:14.95), Nikolas Barkley (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista) in the 200 meter butterfly (2:24.68 ), Mike Zappa in the 100 meter freestyle (56.58), Michael Branch (Las Vegas, Nev/Palo Verde) in the 200 meter backstroke (2:24.74), Seth Evans (Birdsboro, Pa./Daniel Boone) in the 200 meter breaststroke (2:47.57), and Mike Greisl in the 400 meter freestyle (4:36.02).
Mount Union returns to the pool Nov 9th for its first Ohio Athletic Conference meet of the year, when it hosts John Carroll.
