Women's Swimming And Diving Remain Perfect With Road Victory

 LATROBE, Pa—Mount Union's women's swimming and diving team defeated Saint Vincent 113-92 Friday night (Nov.16) at Saint Vincent.

With the win, Mount Union remains perfect on the season and improves its record to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while St. Vincent falls to 2-2 on the season. 

Juniors Courtney Gabel (Freemont/Freemont Ross) and Shelbey Mitchell (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) both took first place in their respective individual events: Gabel in the 50 yard freestyle (24.87) and the 100 yard freestyle (55.00) and Mitchell in the 200 yard backstroke (2:17.16). 

Senior Katy Alkire (Akron/Firestone) placed first in the 400 IM (5:04.10) and second in the 200 breaststroke (2:41.17). 

Freshman Lauren Lammlein finished first in the 500 freestyle (5:36.44), an event in which the Raiders took the first three spots, with Alkire taking second (5:38.62) and freshman Rebecca Oblak (Strongsville/Strongsville) taking third (5:40.36). Oblak finished third in the 1650 freestyle (19:34.44). 

Lammlein also finished second in the 1650 freestyle (19:19.22) and swam the third leg of the 200 yard freestyle relay (1:48.07) which also included: senior Jocelyn Gaydos (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional), freshman Caroline Buehl (Middleburg Heights/Berea) and senior Elizabeth Juran (Independence/Independence). 

Juran led off in the 200 yard medley (1:57.03) relay that included teammates: freshmen Jessica Swanson (Uniontown/Lake), Alisha Steele (Shelby/Shelby) and sophomore Carly Brown (Strongsville/Strongsville). Steele also placed third in the 100 freestyle (56.47). 

Freshman Rose Aldo (Mansfield, Mass/Mansfield) placed second in the 200 backstroke (2:18.74) and third in the 200 yard freestyle (2:04.68)

Senior Madalyn Zalewski (New Kensington, Pa/Valley) finished second in the 400 IM (5:06.26) and third in the 200 yard butterfly (5:06.26).

Mount Union travels to Delaware, Ohio tomorrow (Nov.17) to compete in the Corbiere-Merion Invite.
