ALLIANCE, Ohio—Mount Union's Men's Swimming and Diving Team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival John Carroll 125-80 Friday night in Hammond Natatorium.
With the win, Mount Union improves its record to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the OAC, while John Carroll falls to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
Senior Rob Brocious (Mentor/Mentor) swam to three first place finishes, the 200 IM (2:06.29) the 500 freestyle (4:56.20), and swam the first leg of the 200 medley relay (1:39.95), which also included teammates: Brian Ruhe (Versailles/Versailles), Joe Simpson (Hudson/Walsh Jesuit), and Gavin Rundell (Mount Vernon/Mount Vernon).
Rundell placed first in the 200 freestyle (1:47.39), while Simpson finished first in the 100 butterfly (54.71).
Sophomore Hayden Birnbrich (Pataskala/Columbus St. Charles Prep) finished first in two individual events: the 50 freestyle (22.29), and the 100 backstroke (57.41).
Michael Branch (Las Vegas, Nev/Palo Verde) swam to a first place finish in the longest event of the night, the 1,000 freestyle (10:40.14).
Sophomore Harrison Falconer (Canton/Canton Central Catholic) dove to a first place finish in the one meter diving event with a score of 94.15.
The Purple Raiders next meet will be next Friday (Nov.16) when they travel to Latrobe, Pa to face St. Vincent.
