ALLIANCE, Ohio—Mount Union's Women's Swimming and Diving Team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival John Carroll Friday night (Nov.9) in Hammond Natatorium.
With the win, Mount Union improves its record to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the OAC, while John Carroll falls to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
Freshman Lauren Lammlein (Uniontown/Hoover) placed first in the two longest individual events of the evening: the 1,000 freestyle (11:27.20), and the 500 freestyle (5:34.55).
Junior Courtney Gabel (Freemont/Freemont Ross) placed first in three events: the 50 freestyle (24.69), the 100 butterfly (1:01.65), and swam the first leg of the 200 freestyle relay (1:42.08) which included teammates: freshmen Rose Aldo (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield), Kaitlyn Goldsmith (Galloway/Hilliard Bradley), and junior Shelbey Mitchell (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls).
Mitchell swam to a first place finish in the 100 backstroke (1:02.19).
Freshman diver Sara Fountain (North Ridgeville/Fairview) dove to a first place finish in the one meter diving competition with a score of 162.00.
The Purple Raiders next meet will be next Friday (Nov.16) when they travel to Latrobe, Pa to face St. Vincent.
