Women's Swimming Stays Undefeated With Win Over Ohio Wesleyan

ALLIANCE, Ohio - -Mount Union's women's swimming and diving team defeated Ohio Wesleyan 143-98 Friday night (Dec. 7) in Hammond Natatorium. 

Mount Union remains undefeated at 6-0 on the season, while Ohio Wesleyan falls to 2-2. 

Junior Courtney Gabel (Freemont/Freemont Ross) placed first in both her individual events; the 50 freestyle (24.39) and the 100 free (54.33).

Gabel also swam in the 400 freestyle relay (3:50.78) that finished first and consisted of: freshmen Alex Hamit (Massillon/Perry), Alisha Steele (Shelby/Shelby) and sophomore Carly Brown (Strongsville/Strongsville). 

Freshman Lauren Lammlein (Uniontown/Hoover) took first in the two longest events of the evening; the 500 (5:34.03) and the 1000 (11:22.88) yard freestyles. 

Senior Katy Alkire (Akron/Firestone) took first in the 400 IM (5:02.96), sophomore Annie Holy (North Royalton/North Royalton) placed first in the 200 butterfly (2:28.24), and junior Shelbey Mitchell (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) finished first in the 200 backstroke (2:16.48). 

Mount Union swims its last meet of 2012 tomorrow (Dec. 8) when it travels to Berea, Ohio to face Ohio Athletic Conference opponent Baldwin Wallace at 1:00 p.m.
