BEREA, Ohio -- The No. 16 ranked Mount Union wrestling team closed out the regular season with a 44-9 victory at Baldwin-Wallace in an Ohio Athletic Conference dual Thursday in Berea.
The Purple Raiders finish with a 10-4 overall record and at 4-1 in the OAC need an Ohio Northern loss tomorrow night at Heidelberg to get a share of their second straight OAC regular season title.
Senior Derick Hesson (Dexter City/Caldwell) headlined the night for Mount Union as he moved into second place on the school's all-time with a pin at 285. Hesson now has 103 career victories which puts him one ahead of former Raider Andy Lamancusa (1984-88).
The Raiders got another pin from freshman Bryant Roby (Westchester, Ill./St. Joseph) at 133 along with major victories from senior Joe Spooner (Willoughby/Willoughby South) at 157 and senior Andy Jenkins (Stow/Woodridge) at 184.
Baldwin-Wallace (1-6, 0-5 OAC) won one contested match as Joe Georgian at 197.
Mount Union next will try to defend its title at the OAC Tournament next Saturday, Feb. 25 at Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio.
