Men's Swimming And Diving Loses A Close One At Home To Wooster

ALLIANCE, Ohio - - Men's Swimming and Diving fell  155-139 to Wooster in a non-conference meet Friday evening in the Hammond Natatorium. 

With the win, Wooster improves to 4-3 on the season, while the Purple Raiders fall to 7-4. 

The Raiders next meet is tomorrow when they travel to Wilmington for an Ohio Athletic Conference meet at 1:00 p.m. 

Senior Ian Perry (Perry/Perry) dove to first place finish in the second one meter diving event with a score of 188.05.

In the longest events of the meet, the 500 and 1000 yard freestyles, the Raiders claimed the top three spots in both events. 

Senior Rob Brocious (Mentor/Mentor) finished first in the 1000 free, freshman Michael Branch (Las Vegas, Nev/Palo Verde) finished second and freshman Andrew Oktavec (Brunswick/Brunswick) finished third for the Raiders. 

In the 500 free, the top three spots were claimed by freshmen, as Gavin Rundell (Mount Vernon/Mount Vernon) finished first, Marcus Zappa (Amherst/Amherst Steele) finished second and Branch took third.  

The Raiders claimed the top two spots in the 200 yard freestyle, as Rundell took first place (1:49.54) and senior Mike Greisl (South Euclid/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) finished second (1:50.74). 

Rundell also swam the second leg in the 200 free relay (1:28.23) that finished in first place and was comprised of Greisl who swam the anchor leg, sophomore Hayden Birnbrich (Pataskala/Columbus St. Charles Prep) who swam leadoff and Rogers who swam the third leg. 

Brocious also finished second in the 100 yard backstroke (53.49), 200 backstroke (1:59.35) and swam backstroke in the 200 yard medley relay (1:45.55) that was comprised of sophomores Brian Ruhe (Versailles/Versailles) who swam breaststroke, Joe Simpson (Hudson/Walsh Jesuit) who swam butterfly and freshman Logan Rogers (Hartville/Archbishop Hoban) who swam freestyle. 

 Birnbirch and Rundell both finished second in their respective events, the 50 free (22.39) and the 200 fly (2:05.67). 

Simpson, Ruhe, and Greisl all took second place in their respective events the 100 butterfly (54.50), the 100 breaststroke (2:05.67) and the 100 freestyle (49.42).
