WILMINGTON, Ohio - - Women's Swimming and Diving defeated Wilmington 106-96 in an Ohio Athletic Conference meet Saturday afternoon.
With the win, Mount Union improves to 9-2 overall and 4-1 in the OAC, while Wilmington falls to 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the conference.
The Purple Raider finished six events in first place.
The Raiders claimed the top two spots in the 100 meter freestyle as junior Courtney Gabel (Freemont/Freemont Ross) finished first (1:02.79) and freshman Kaitlyn Goldsmith (Galloway/Hilliard Bradley) finished second (1:05.35).
Gabel finished first in the 200 meter freestyle (2:17.12) and swam breaststroke in the 200 meter medley relay (2:09.89) that finished in first place and was comprised of junior Shelbey Mitchell (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) who swam backstroke, sophomore Carly Brown (Strongsville/Strongsville) who swam butterfly, and Goldsmith who swam freestyle.
Goldsmith also took first place in the 50 free with a time of 29.20 and freshman Rebecca Oblak (Strongsville/Strongsville) swam to a first place finish in the 400 IM with a time of 5:44.13.
Freshman Rose Aldo (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) took first in the 800 meter freestyle (10:16.56) and senior Katy Alkire (Akron/Firestone) took first place in the 400 meter freestyle (5:00.82).
Mount Union returns home for their next meet when they host Penn State-Behrend Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the Hammond Natatorium.
