CANTON, Ohio – The Mount Union women's swimming and diving team began the 2013-14 season with a strong non-conference showing, as they defeated Malone, 160-76 on Friday night.
Leading the way for the Purple Raiders was sophomore Lauren Lammlein (Uniontown/Hoover), who won all three of her events for Mount Union.
Lammlein won the 1000-yard free (11:27.05), and the 500-yard free (5:34.45).
Others placing first on the day were Rose Aldo (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) in the 200-yard free (2:04.10), Caroline Buehl (Middleburg Heights/Berea) in the 100-yard butterfly (1:05.63) and Shelbey Mitchell (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) in the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.57).
In relay action, the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Lammlein, Aldo, Kaitlyn Goldsmith (Galloway/Hilliard Bradley), and Miranda Gessner (Granville/Watkins Memorial) took first with a time of 1:44.98.
Sophomore diver Sara Fountain (North Ridgeville/Fairview) took first in both the one and three meter dives with scores of 172.20 and 142.40.
Mount Union (1-0) returns to the pool tomorrow, Oct. 26 at 1 pm for their home opener against Hiram in a non-conference meet at Hammond Natatorium.
