ALLIANCE, Ohio -- The Mount Union men's swimming and diving team defeated Defiance, 156-76, at the Hammond Natatorium on Saturday afternoon.
The Purple Raiders were led by freshman Tyler Moore (Amherst/Amherst) who won all four of the events he participated in.
Moore won the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke events with times of 1:02.26 and 2:16.72.
Also taking individual events for Mount Union were Gavin Rundell (Mount Vernon/Mount Vernon) in the 1000 freestyle (10:23.97) and the 100-butterfly (54.41), Takunda Mafundikwa (Atlanta, Ga./Marist) in the 100-backstroke (1:03.35) and the 100-yard freestyle (51.65),and Joe Simpson (Hudson/Walsh Jesuit) in the 200-butterfly (2:07.38) and the 500-freestyle (5:27.44).
The Raiders also won the 200 medley relay (1:40.70), with team of, Hayden Birnbrich (Pataskala/Columbus St. Charles Prep), Moore, Simpson and Austin Moreland (Dover/New Philadelphia). They also took first in the 400 freestyle relay (3:27.30), with the team, Alex Machovina(Amherst/Amherst), Seth Evans (Birdsboro, Pa./Daniel Boone), Moore, and Mafundikwa.
Mount Union (2-1) returns to the pool Friday, November 5 at 6 pm when they open Ohio Athletic Conference swim competition at rival John Carroll.
