ALLIANCE, Ohio -- The Mount Union men's swimming and diving team defeated Baldwin Wallace 162-73 in an Ohio Athletic Conference competition Saturday afternoon at Hammond Natatorium.
The Purple Raiders had four swimmers take first in individual events and were members of first place relays.
Seniors Mike Zappa (Shelby/Shelby) took first in the 100-yard butterfly (53.73) and Zach Melvin (Woodmere/Orange) took first in the 100-yard backstroke (58.61), junior Hayden Birnbrich (Pataskala/Columbus St. Charles Prep) took first in the 100-yard freestyle (48.38), and freshman Tyler Moore (Amherst/Amherst) took first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.77).
In relay action, the team of Birnbrich, Moore, Zappa (Mike), and Gavin Rundell (Mount Vernon/Mount Vernon) took first place in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:39.77. While the team of Moore, Birnbrich, Zappa (Mike), and Rundell took first in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:15.40.
Mount Union (6-1) returns to competition when they compete in the Wooster Invitational December 5-7 at the Ellen Shaprio Natatorium in Wooster, Ohio.
