ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Mount Union women's swimming and diving team defeated Baldwin Wallace 141-102 in an Ohio Athletic Conference competition Saturday afternoon at Hammond Natatorium.
Setting the pace for the Purple Raiders was senior Shelbey Mitchell (Stow/Stow-Munore Falls) who took first place in two individual events and was a member of a relay team that also took first.
Mitchell took first in the 50-yard freestyle (25.15) and in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.14).
Also taking first place in individual events were sophomores Rose Aldo (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) and Alex Hamit (Massillon/Perry) and freshman Joan Dregalla (Olmsted Falls/Olmsted Falls). Aldo took first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:19.03, while Hamit took first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.74 and Dregalla took first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:33.21.
In relay action, the team of Mitchell, Jessica Swanson (Uniontown/Lake), Miranda Gessner (Granville/Watkins Memorial), and Kaitlyn Goldsmith (Galloway/Hilliard Bradley) took first in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:53.98, while the team of Lauren Lammlein (Uniontown/Hoover), Carly Brown (Strongsville/Strongsville), Gessner, and Hamit took first in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:54.42.
Mount Union (7-0) returns to competition when they compete in the Wooster Invitational December 5-7 at the Ellen Shaprio Natatorium in Wooster, Ohio.
