UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Mount Union women's swimming and diving team defeated John Carroll, 160-77, in the opening of Ohio Athletic Conference competition on Friday evening.
Sophomore Rose Aldo (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) led the way for the Purple Raiders, who took first place in two individual events and a relay.
Aldo won the 500-yard freestyle (5:33.85) and the 200-yard free (2:02.16).
Others placing first in various events were; Shelbey Mitchell (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) in the 50-yard freestyle (25.37) and the 100-yard freestyle (56.02), Lauren Lammlein (Canton/Hoover) in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:22.96) and Alex Hamit (Massillon/Perry) in the 200-yard backstroke (2:21.18).
In relay action, the 200-yard freestyle relay team of, Aldo, Miranda Gessner (Granville/Watkins Memorial), Lammlein and Mitchell took first place with a time of 1:43.34.
Mount Union (4-0) returns to Hammond Natatorium on Friday, November 15, at 5 pm for a meet against St. Vincent (Pa.) in Alliance.
