DES MOINES, Iowa -- The No. 19 ranked Mount Union wrestling team beat two nationally ranked and lost to another on the first day of the National Wrestling Coaches Association National Duals Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa.
Mount Union (6-2) started the day with a 22-17 win over No. 12 Luther (Iowa), then took a 34-10 loss to No. 1 ranked Wartburg (Iowa) before a 21-18 win over No. 20 Springfield (Mass.)
The Purple Raiders face No. 5 Wilkes (Pa.) tomorrow at 9 am with a win sending Mount Union to the fifth place match at the 16-team event.
Two Raiders went 3-0 on the day in junior Jon Garrison (Copley/Copley) at 157 pounds and Jeremy Border (Caldwell/Caldwell) at 133 pounds.
Garrison's day was highlighted by a pin of No. 4 in the nation Drew Wagenhoffer of Wartburg and a 5-3 overtime win over the No. 1 ranked wrestler in the nation -- Devin Biscaha of Springfield.
Border also knocked off a nationally ranked opponent with an 8-2 win over Evan Obert of Luther.
