DES MOINES, Iowa -- The No. 19 ranked Mount Union wrestling team finished eighth at the National Wrestling Coaches Association National Duals in Des Moines, Iowa.
After defeating a pair of national ranked teams on Saturday, the Purple Raiders (6-4) dropped a pair of matches Sunday falling 24-16 to No. 5 ranked Wilkes (Pa.) then 29-9 to #12 Luther (Iowa) in the seventh place match.
Mount Union has placed as a team in each of its last two appearances in the 16-team select national event.
Jon Garrison (Copley/Copley) ended up going 4-0 on the weekend with three wins against nationally ranked opponents including a 10-6 win over No. 2 ranked Kristopher Krawchuk of Wilkes. Garrison, who entered the event unranked, knocked off the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 ranked wrestlers over the weekend.
Mount Union returns home to host a dual meet Saturday, Jan. 18 and the Mount Union Open on Sunday, Jan. 19 in Peterson Fieldhouse.
