WOOSTER, Ohio -- The Mount Union men's swimming and diving had a great showing as they defeated the College of Wooster 151-147, Friday night in Wooster.
The Purple Raiders were paced by sophomore Gavin Rundell (Mount Vernon/Mount Vernon) and freshman Tyler Moore (Amherst Steele/Amherst Steele) who each took three individual first places.
Rundell took first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.16), the 200-yard butterfly (2:04.35), and the 500-yard freesytle (4:55.26), while Moore took first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.00), the 50-yard freestyle (22.42) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.55).
Also placing was senior Mike Zappa (Shelby/Shelby) also took first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.71 and second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.64, and Seth Evans (Birdsboro, Pa/Daniel Boone) who took second in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:11.95.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Rundell, Moore, Austin Moreland (Dover/New Philadelphia), and M. Zappa swam a 1:29.23 to take first place.
Mount Union (7-2) will host Wilmington in an Ohio Athletic Conference meet tomorrow at 1 pm at the Hammond Natatorium in Alliance.
