HIRAM, Ohio –The Mount Union men's swimming and diving team defeated Hiram, 156-42, in their second meet of the season on Saturday afternoon.
The Purple Raiders were paced by juniors Gavin Rundell (Mount Vernon/Mount Vernon) and Matt Campbell (Louisville/Louisville) and freshman Brian Walker (Cincinnati/Oak Hills), who each won three events as Mount Union won all but one event on the day.
Rundell won both the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly events, with times of 2:04.46 and 1:01.74. Campbell claimed first in the 100 freestyle (58.05) while Walker won the 200 IM (2:22.87) and 400 freestyle (4:31.48) .
Also taking individual events for Mount Union were junior Marcus Zappa (Amherst/Amherst Steele) in the 800 free (9:30.91), sophomore Tyler Moore (Amherst/Amherst Steele) in the 50 free (25.27), and freshman Tyler Fry (Massillon/Washington) in the 100 backstroke (1:03.28).
In relay action, the Raiders won the 400 medley relay (4:15.70), with the team of Fry, Moore, Walker and Campbell as well as the 400 freestyle relay (3:51.05) with the team of Rundell, sophomore Alex Machovina (Amherst/Amherst Steele), junior Logan Rogers (Hartville/Archbishop Hoban) and Campbell.
In diving action, junior Nathan Levengood (New Philadelphia/New Philadelphia) swept the 1 meter and 3 meter dives with scores of 165.80 and 162.90.
Mount Union (1-1) will next travel to Defiance for swimming action on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 1 pm.
