BEREA, Ohio -- The Mount Union men's swimming and diving team defeated Baldwin Wallace, winning their third straight meet, 140-58 Friday.
The Purple Raiders were led by juniors Gavin Rundell (Mount Vernon/Mount Vernon) and Marcus Zappa(Amherst/Amherst Steele) who each won three events on the day.
Rundell won the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.11) and 200-yard butterfly (2:00.47) while Zappa won the 1000-yard freestyle (10:16.02) and 500-yard freestyle (4:59.99).
Also taking individual events for Mount Union were Tyler Fry (Massillon/Washington) in the 100-yard freestyle (50.76), Matt Campbell in the 50-yard freestyle (22.96), Brian Walker (Cincinnati/Oak Hills) in the 200-yard IM (2:07.36) and Seth Evans (Birdsboro, Pa/Daniel Boone) in the 200-yard backstroke (2:15.29).
Mount Union swept the relay competition winning the 200-yard medley relay (1:42.22) with team of Fry, Tyler Moore (Amherst/Amherst Steele), Alex Machovina (Amherst/Amherst Steele) and Nik Barkley (Phoenix, Ariz/Desert Vista) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:31.43) with team of Rundell, Zappa, Campbell and Moore.
In diving action, Mount Union won the one-meter divs with Brian Butterfield (Lakewood/St. Edward) placing first with a score of 125.05.
Mount Union (5-2) returns to the pool Thursday, Dec. 4 as they compete in the Wooster Invitational (Dec. 4-6) in Wooster.
