ALLIANCE, Ohio -- The Mount Union men's swimming and diving team defeated John Carroll, 157-87, in the first Ohio Athletic Conference meet of the season Saturday afternoon.
The Purple Raiders were led by junior Gavin Rundell (Mount Vernon/Mount Vernon) who won all four of the events he participated in.
Rundell won the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.04), 200-yard butterfly (2:01.08) and 100-yard butterfly (53.61).
Also taking individual events for Mount Union were Brian Walker (Cincinnati/Oak Hills) in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:34.70), Tyler Fry (Massillon/Washington) in the 100-yard backstroke (54.94) and 200-yard backstroke (2.05.26), Tyler Moore (Amherst/Amherst) in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.97), Logan Rogers (Hartville/Archbishop Hoban) in the 100-yard freestyle (50.35), and Marcus Zappa(Amherst/Amherst Steele) in the 500-yard freestyle (5:04.56).
The Raiders also won the 400 medley relay (3:36.97) with team of Fry, Moore, Rundell and Rogers.
Mount Union (3-2) returns to the pool Saturday, Nov. 15 as they host Ohio Wesleyan at 1:00 pm at the Hammond Natatorium.
