ALLIANCE, Ohio -- The Mount Union men's swimming and diving team defeated Wooster College 132-109 Friday in their final home meet of the season.
Nine seniors were recognized for their dedicated time and hard work to the program for four years-Carly Brown, Wilma Levengood. Hayden Birnbrich, Harrison Falconer, Derek Hosier, Ryan Kmet,Brian Ruhe, Joe Simpson, and Tommy Spichiger.
The Purple Raiders were led by juniors Gavin Rundell (Mount Vernon/Mount Vernon) and Marcus Zappa(Amherst/Amherst Steele) and sophomore Tyler Moore (Amherst/Amherst Steele) who each won two events on the day.
Zappa won in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:23.48) and 500-yard freestyle (5:00.85).
Rundell won in the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.92) and 100-yard butterfly (53.75) and Moore won in the 400-yard IM (4:23.94) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.58) while each competed in the 400-yard medley relay.
In relay action, Mount Union won the 400-yard medley relay (3:35.17) with team of Fry, Moore, Rundell and Logan Rogers (Hartville/Archbishop Hoban).
Mount Union (6-3) has a quick turn-around as they travel to Wilmington tomorrow, Saturday Jan. 17 to take on the Quakers at 1 pm.
