CANTON, Ohio- The Mount Union men's swimming and diving team began the 2015-16 season with a non-conference victory, as they defeated Malone with a close score of 144-140 on Friday night.
Senior Gavin Rundell (Mount Vernon/Mount Vernon) won the 200 yard butterfly (1:57.32) while coming second in three other events including 500 yard freestyle, 200 yard freestyle relay, 200 yard medley relay.
Sophomore Tyler Fry (Massillon/Washington), junior Tyler Moore (Amherst/Amherst Steele) and senior Logan Rogers (Hartville/Archbishop Hoban) were a part of the 200 yard medley relay while Moore, Rogers and junior Alex Machovina (Amherst/Amherst Steele) were a part of the 200 yard freestyle relay.
Others placing first in their events for the Purple Raiders were Rogers in the 50 yard freestyle (21.93) and Nick Hoffman (Fremont/Fremont Ross) in the 100 yard butterfly (54.61)
In diving action, Nathan Levengood (New Philadelphia/New Philadelphia) won the 1 meter and 3 meter diving event with scores of 161.05 and 168.55.
Mount Union hosts Hiram tomorrow, Oct. 24 at 1pm in the Hammond Natatorium.
