ALLIANCE, Ohio -- The No. 7 ranked Mount Union wrestling team beat Heidelberg 29-7 to clinch at least a share of the Ohio Athletic Conference title Tuesday at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
The Purple Raiders are 13-3 overall and at 4-0 in the OAC grab their 14th conference title in school history.
Mount Union scored a pair of impressive technical falls from senior Jon Garrison (Copley/Copley) at 157 pounds and freshman Nick Mancini (Boardman/Boardman) at 125 pounds.
The match started at 197 pounds and sophomore Brian Olson (Covington/Covington) scored a 6-0 win for the Raiders.
Heidelberg (10-11, 2-2 OAC) tied the match when No. 3 ranked Nino Majoy scored a win at 285.
Mancini, ranked No. 8 in the nation, then scored his tech fall in the third period at 125 before junior Jeremy Border, ranked No. 1 in the nation at 133, scored an 11-0 major decision win which gave Mount Union a 12-3 lead.
Senior Bryant Roby (Westchester, Ill./St. Joseph) scored an overtime win at 141 and fellow senior Ben Kazimir (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) had a decision win at 149 that pushed the lead to 18-3.
Garrison, ranked eighth at 157, then got his tech fall in the third period followed by wins from senior Nick Hendershot (Willoughby/Willoughby South) at 165 and sophomore Nick Miller (Mansfield/Ontario) at 174 gave the Raiders a commanding 29-3 lead.
Mount Union closes out the regular season next Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. against John Carroll in an OAC dual at the MAAC in Alliance.
