BEREA, Ohio – The No. 7 ranked Mount Union wrestling team scored a 27-6 win at No. 13 ranked Baldwin Wallace in an Ohio Athletic Conference dual Tuesday in Berea.
With the win, the Purple Raiders take sole possession of first place in the OAC at 3-0 (12-3 overall) while Baldwin Wallace falls to 15-5 overall and 2-1 in the OAC.
Mount Union won eight matches on the evening including the first six to jump out to a commanding 21-0 lead.
Freshman Nick Mancini (Boardman/Boardman), ranked eighth in the nation at 125 pounds, started the night off for the Raiders with a 3-1 overtime win over All-American and fifth ranked Jesse Gunter.
Junior Jeremy Border (Caldwell/Caldwell), the nation's top ranked wrestler at 133 pounds, scored a pin before senior Bryant Roby (Westchester, Ill./St. Joseph) got a 3-2 overtime win at 141 pounds to give Mount Union a 12-0 lead.
Seniors Ben Kazimir (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) at 149 and Jon Garrison (Copley/Copley), ranked fifth in the nation at 157, both scored decision victories to extend the lead to 18-0.
Senior Nick Hendershot (Willoughby/Willoughby South) scored an upset at 165 pounds as he knocked off nationally ranked No. 9 David Shapiro in a close 3-2 win.
Mount Union closed out the dual with wins from senior Brent Kirk (Adena/Buckeye Local) at 184 pounds and freshman Jacob Alarie (Bay City, Mich./Western) at 285.
The Raiders return home to host Heidelberg in an OAC dual next Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the MAAC.
