ALLIANCE, Ohio- Mount Union's men's swimming and diving team defeated Wilmington 172-108 in their last home meet of the season Saturday afternoon.
Eleven seniors were recognized for their dedicated time and hard work to the program for four years- Nikolas Barkley, Michael Branch, Matt Campbell, Seth Evans, Jordan Fitch, Nathan Levengood, Nathan Lorah, Andrew Oktavec, Logan Rogers, Gavin Rundell, and Marcus Zappa.
Leading the way for the Purple Raiders was Gavin Rundell (Mount Vernon/Mount Vernon) who won four events on the day. Rundell won the 200 yard freestyle (1:48.33), the 500 yard freestyle (4:59.13) and was also a part of the 200 yard medley relay (1:38.61) and the 200 yard freestyle relay (1:29.59).
Also a part of the 200 yard medley relay win was Tyler Moore (Amherst/Amherst Steele) and Logan Rogers (Hartville/Archbishop Hoban) and Tyler Fry (Massillon/Washington) and included in the 200 yard freestyle relay was Alex Machovina (Amherst/Amherst Steele), Moore, and Rogers.
Fry also won the 100 yard backstroke (53.94) and the 200 yard backstroke (2:01.31) while Moore won the 100 yard breaststroke (1:00.73) for their individual events in the win against Wilmington.
Others placing first in their events were Marcuz Zappa (Amherst/Amherst Steele) in the 1000 yard freestyle (10:22.68) Jack Ineson (Huron/Huron) won the 200 yard breaststroke (2:18.36) and the 100 yard IM (57.38), while Nick Hoffman (Fremont/Fremont Ross) won the 100 yard butterfly (55.15).
In diving action, Nathan Levengood (New Philadelphia/New Philadelphia) scored a total score of 350.55 which is his personal best.
The Raiders return to the pool as they travel to New Wilmington, Pa. to take on Westminster (Pa.) Saturday, January 23 at 1 p.m.
