CANTON, Ohio- The Mount Union men's swimming and diving team began the 2016-17 season with a non-conference victory, as they defeated Malone 113-83.
Junior Tyler Fry (Massillon/Washington), senior Tyler Moore (Amherst/Amherst Steele), senior Alex Machovina (Amherst/Amherst Steele) and freshman Logan Palochak (Hopewell, Pa./Hopewell) were a part of the 200 yard medley relay which placed first (1:37.74). Fry, Moore, and Palochak each placed first in other events while Machovina placed second in two events.
Moore placed first in the 200 yard IM (2:00.68), Fry in the 100 yard backstroke (55.41), Palochak in the 100 yard butterfly (54.98) while Machovina placed second in the 200 yard freestyle (1:51.34) and the 100 yard freestyle (49.47).
Freshman Cole Ellsworth (Temperance, Mich./Bedford) placed first in the 1000 yard freestyle (10:10.59) and the 500 yard freestyle (4:57.45) while fellow freshman Jim Novinc (Gates Mills/Gilmour Academy) placed second in the 1000 yard freestyle (10:34.52) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:11.49). Junior Brian Walker (Cincinnati/Oak Hills) also placed second in an event, the 200 yard IM (2:02.86).
Mount Union travels to Hiram tomorrow, Oct. 22 at 1pm.
