ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union's wrestling team scored a 27-10 win over John Carroll in an Ohio Athletic Conference dual match Tuesday at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

Mount Union won six of the 10 bouts with three pins and needed all of the bonus points that came with them.

Nick Mancini (Boardman/Boardman) at 125 pounds and Alec Cotton, who is ranked No. 6 in the nation at 141 pounds, both got the Purple Raiders off to a fast start with pins in two of the first three matches.

At 133 pounds, John Carroll got a decision win but Nate Kirk (Adena/Buckeye Local) rallied in the final minute to keep the Blue Streaks from getting any bonus points. 

John Carroll got a major decision at 149 and another win at 157 to trim the Mount Union lead to 12-10 but Jesse Gross (Norwalk/St. Paul) came back with a 10-4 win at 165 to put the Raiders up 15-10.

Nick Miller (Mansfield/Ontario) got an 8-3 win at 174 and then a third period take down gave Isaiah Watson-Kirksey (Alliance/Alliance) a 9-7 win at 184 and a 21-10 lead.

John Carroll's Mason Litz got a pin at 197 to give the Blue Streaks a chance but Mike Sinclair (Ellwood City, Pa./Lincoln) put the match away with a pin at 285.

Mount Union returns to the mat next Tuesday, January 31 at 7:30 p.m. with an Ohio Athletic Conference dual against Heidelberg in Tiffin.
