ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union's women's swimming and diving team defeated the Oberlin Yeowomen by a final score of 163-104 this afternoon in the Hammond Natatorium.
The Purple Raiders were lead by junior Sarah Gonda (Boardman/Boardman) who won four events on the afternoon. Individually, Gonda won both the 100 and 200 yard backstroke with times of 1:04.48 and 2:20.09, respectively. Gonda also took first in the 400 yard IM with a time of 5:14.72. She was also a member of the 400 Medley relay team that placed first (4:16.65) with Lauren Stajcar (Strongsville/Strongsville), Jessica Hirsh (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) and Elise Pichola (Rocky River/Rocky River).
Mount Union had four swimmers record three wins on the afternoon. Individually, senior Dana Lautenschleger (Solon/Solon) won the 1000 yard freestyle (10:54.41) and the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.83. She was also a member of the 400 yard freestyle relay team that finished first (3:51.10) with Pichola, Lauren Oktavec (Brunswick/Brunswick), and Erin Bain (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk). Along with the win in the 400 yard freestyle relay, Oktavek recorded two indidivual wins. Oktavek won both the 200 and 500 yard freestyle with times of 2:05.85 and 5:39.19, respectively.
Freshman Lauren Stajcar recorded indivdual wins in the 100 yard freestyle (58.19) and the 100 yard breastroke (1:11.58). Elise Pichola was a member of both relay teams along with winning the 50 yard freestlye with a time of 26.71. Junior Regina Saxon (Hudson/Hudson) rounds out the wins for the Raiders as she won the 200 yard breastroke with a time of 2:38.84.
The Raiders will be back in the pool on Saturday, November 18 at 1 p.m. against Baldwin Wallace in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup in the Hammond Natatorium.
